GIRL power is not just a trendy phrase for the Youth Action group at Penketh High - it is a way of saving lives.
Pupils have been handing out information leaflets and selling personal alarms to raise awareness about safety on the streets.
The all-girl group was moved to action after a spate of attacks around the area.
Sandra Bates, Head of Year 11, said: "Youth Action is all about doing something for the community.
"Following a number of attacks, the girls thought the best thing they could do was hand out leaflets and sell alarms. They have proved to be very successful."
The small but active group meets once a week to discuss how members can help address problems that affect the area. The next challenge is a scheme to help children with problems.
"The girls are very interested in training to be peer counsellors. They want to be there for younger children to talk to if they have any problems and to offer advice on a variety of issues," said Mrs Bates.
The students also want to ensure that youngsters learn all about cycle safety. They are planning to introduce cycling provision lessons at primary schools in the area.
Mrs Bates added: "They are a dedicated set of girls and I think being involved in Youth Action has had a very positive effect on them and other people."
