Widnes Albion Bulls 26
Portico Panthers 12
THE ALBION completed their league programme with a comprehensive win over the side who have won the Division, leaving them to reflect on what might have been.
A hat-trick of tries by centre Andy Benson and a brace by prop Paul Davies ensured Portico were always fighting an uphill battle.
Albion Bulls were 12-6 up at half-time thanks to two conversions by Chris Fenlon.
They opened up an 18-6 lead before Portico cut the deficit but urged on by inspirational skipper Geoff Williams with good running from Paul Rostance and Mick Donnelly and Neil Burke keeping Portico on the back foot and Ste Lightfoot tackling everything that moved.
They scored two more tries and were unlucky not to have landed a couple more as Geoff Jackson and Stan Phizacklea were downed only yards short of the line.
This wasn't to be however but the Albion did have the satisfaction of taking three points off the team who have won the league Division Two championship.
The A team game at Springview fell foul of the weather with a postponement on Saturday morning.
