RUNCORN remain in a parlous position in the Unibond League after suffering their tenth defeat of the season away to Worksop on Saturday.

Despite improved league results under Mark Carter, Runcorn are fourth last in the league, three points ahead of Colwyn Bay.

Owing to progress in various cups, Runcorn have games in hand over their fellow strugglers.

But they must start winning them.

Manager Mark Carter said: "It was a game we should have won. We were winning one-nil and then we gifted them an equaliser.

"Whatever standard of football you play, you can't gift goals."

"We don't seem to be able to string a number of wins together. It is OK having these games in hand but teams aren't going to gift you three points."

Mark has been looking at bringing players in and has made preliminary contact.

Former Bolton centre-back Mark Seagraves made his debut as a substitute on Saturday.

Runcorn conceded a brace of second-half goals, ceding the advantage they had taken through Colin Rose's 20th minute strike.

Early pressure from the Linnets saw them create a number of reasonable chances.

But, although Rose was on target, the opportunity to establish a commanding lead was missed.

Worksop equalised in the 51st minute when Mark Morris lost a ball that he had initially collected, allowing Gary Townsend to pick his spot in an unguarded goal.

The home team pressed ahead and scored the game's decisive goal with ten minutes left. Kenny Clark chipped Morris from 25 yards.

This weekend sees Spennymoor visit Canal Street, with Runcorn able to climb over the Durham side with a victory.
