Old Transporter 3

Norton 1

THE TRANNY progressed to the Quarter-Final of the Challenge Cup after defeating Norton on a very heavy pitch at Pavilions.

The first-half was played with Norton playing five in midfield and one up front, where as the Tranny tried to use the width of the pitch to find a way through, it was a credit to both sides that they did try to play a passing game despite the conditions underfoot.

The breakthrough came for the Tranny midway through the first-half when from a free-kick outside the box Gary Jacques fired home to give them a half-time lead.

The second-half was 10 minutes old when from a corner Mike Smith pounced to give the Tranny a 2-0 advantage.

Norton, to their credit, fought their way back into the game when Peter Golborne broke free to score.

The Tranny settled and 10 minutes later put the game beyond Norton when Gary Jacques got his second goal after rounding the goalkeeper and scoring from a very tight angle.

The game was then played out as players tired on the heavy pitch with both defences holding firm to give the Tranny a deserved victory.
