HORNETS had a disastrous start when in the opening minute dropped possession gave Crusaders the chance to take a 6-0 lead.
A cracking try from skipper Liam McGovern converted by Ste Rowlands brought the scores level.
But on the last tackle three Hornets players made a hash of an up-and-under which gifted another try to Crusaders.
Against the wind Hornets started to dominate play and sent Mark Bevan in at the corner for a try which was superbly converted.
Prop Craig Bennett scored in the corner following a barnstorming run, the lead was increased to 17-10 with a McGovern drop-goal.
Crusaders regained the lead after uncharacteristic bad defence and Hornets came back and from a tap penalty quick hands got Ste Rowlands in.
Hornets regained the lead with a penalty goal from 40 metres out by McGovern.
Hornets sealed the game with another fine solo try from McGovern.

NOT one of the Hornets best games this season.
Some poor tackling let a well organised Ashton side take the lead in the first-half.
A better second-half performance saw the Hornets pull back the deficit and eventually take the lead.
However, Ashton scored in the dying minutes of the game and it all proved to be too little, too late for the Hornets.
Mom went to Richard Myler who made some great play.
A closely fought top tackler award was picked up by David Dourley and the coach's award was given to Nathan Ashall.
