RUNCORN-bound telecommunications firm Martin Dawes has been taken over by Cellnet in a multi-million pound move which could see job expansion in Halton.

Cellnet announced the £130 million takeover on Monday.

The company's move to its new Preston Brook headquarters, scheduled for June, will not be affected by the sale.

The company will operate a call centre from Runcorn.

Cellnet spokesman Andrew Marshall said he hoped the move would presage expansion and extra jobs in the area.

Although Martin Dawes is bringing 1,000 staff to Preston Brook, it is merely a transfer of jobs from its existing headquarters in Warrington.

"The prospects look pretty good.

"It's all good news," said Mr Marshall.
