THE UNHAPPY job news at Halton College will not get in the way of a proposed new site in Runcorn, according to its principal.
Acting principal John Bolton said governors still want to develop an educational facility across the Mersey.
This assurance comes in the wake of recent disclosures that management want to shed 177 jobs in response to new funding guidelines issued by the Further Education Funding Council.
"The board of governors is still committed to a two site college," said Mr Bolton.
Halton has to pay £9 million pounds back to the FEFC as a result of an investigation it launched last year.
He said that Halton College might decide to use its assets, but that any building would, if the FEFC backed plans, would attract about 42 per cent funding from the overseeing body.
