ALMOST £4,000 has been donated to the World appeal to Save Halton Haven this week in memory of founder Dom Valdez, 59, who died suddenly last month.
Hundreds of cards with cheques and moving messages of condolence have been sent to the cancer care centre from all over the world.
Many of the letters were written by relatives of patients who have been looked after at the haven.
Donations totalling £3,634 have come in since Dom's funeral last Monday.
Magic 1548 celebrity Pete Price spoke to World chief reporter Barbara Jordan live on the radio this week.
He had interviewed Dom about the appeal on his late night chat show, only weeks before he died.
Pete asked Barbara how the World was helping the Haven's fundraising efforts.
She spoke about the tremendous support Dom had received from readers since he first started to fulfil his dream to create a haven for cancer sufferers in 1980.
Schools, factories, offices, shops, clubs, pubs and individuals rallied round to help after the World highlighted the biggest cash crisis ever to face the haven. In just four weeks, we were almost two-thirds of the way.
Now, we are only £6,666 short of the target of £25,000 needed to secure the future of the hospice.
Several fundraising events are in the pipeline.
We are confident we can reach the sum needed in time for the Haven's 19th birthday in May.
Cheques in memory of Dom, made payable to Halton Haven, can be sent to the hospice in Barnfield Avenue, Murdishaw.
