A TRAINING course with North and Mid Cheshire TEC was just the job last year for Marc Sayle.
Marc found his way out of the employment wilderness and became trainee assistant manager at Motorworld in Winsford within weeks of enrolling.
And his deserved turnaround in fortunes is rewarded tonight, Wednesday, at the TEC's 1998 trainee of the year awards ceremony, where Marc will pick up the £300 prize and certificate as runner-up in the adult training category.
He joins an elite group of 10 ambitious trainees who are being recognised for their hard work and dedication over the course of last year.
Marc, 29, who also lives in Winsford, has earned his award for the speed with which his training has paid off.
He said: "When I went on the course, I didn't have any idea of how to get a job but got a part-time placement after a month and a half.
"The difference it made was that I was more confident in getting a job and knew what to look out for when going for an interview, rather than just walking in and being scared stiff."
Marc's apprenticeship course, run in conjunction with Cheshire County Council, taught him the basic skills of preparing a CV and filling in application forms.
After just three months, he was ready to power straight into Motorworld and take up his post full time.
Marc addded: "At first I found it hard to adjust. I feel like I've gone so far in a short length of time. I wouldn't have got into this job when I first started so thanks to the course, my employers must have thought I was capable of doing it."
The ceremony will be held at the Park Royal International Hotel in Stretton, Warrington.
TV star Michaela Strachan will be the host and the awards will be presented by Chris Blythe, chief executive of the Warrington-based TEC.
