WORD needs to be spread around Winsford if gates are to go up.
This was the message at the recent shareholders meeting, where it was agreed that promotion of Winsford United within the town was esssential to any success.
"Some people don't even know where the ground's situated," said Alec Bayliss, who has been involved with the club in various guises from chairman through president during his 60-year association with the Blues.
He is leading a team of three helpers who are putting Winsford United about town, and a series of posters promoting forthcoming games have sprung up in shops, supermarkets, pubs, and on walls all over town.
But how successful the campaign has been is not yet clear, as the weekend's game perished in the rain.
"We're trying to attract people to see whether they are interested in going up and it's up to them if they want a successful team.
"The posters have been lying about in the office all season and it needs someone to do this. We used to do it years ago going round to empty shop windows and sticking them up.
"That was when we were thriving. It appears interest has dropped."
Alec knows that the younger element need to be attracted and he is also putting emphasis on the fact that the town have the opportunity to get behind a local man who has taken charge of the team.
He added: "I hope Mark Came does well and hope we can help him by attracting Winsford people to come along and support him."
