The chamber urges Cheshire County Council in the strongest possible terms to re-open Marbury Lane as a viable route for private cars between Northwich town centre and Barnton, Anderton, Comberbach etc.
Commercial vehicles should of course be banned from using Marbury Lane.
The chamber is very concerned that retail business in Northwich will continue to lose trade to other centres such as Warrington.
As long as Marbury Lane remains closed, other centres will be seen by some residents of Barnton, Anderton and Comberbach, as more convenient.
Marbury Lane, when it is open, provides both a viable alternative to Winnington Swing Bridge to ease congestion there, and a replacement route when the former is closed.
Winnington Swing Bridge has had to be completely closed on a number of occasions.
As well as its great value in retaining trade for Northwich town centre and assisting road users by easing congestion, Marbury Lane has an invaluable use as a route for people wishing to enjoy Marbury Park. Surely providing this access to Marbury Park for recreational use will become more important with the development of the area as part of the Mersey Forest.
On all these grounds, I would again urge Cheshire County Council to re-open Marbury Lane as soon as possible.
