THREE policemen have won commendations from Northwich Superintendent Ian Johns.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Groom and Detective Constable Graham Gabbott were praised for their part in the conviction of child abductor Philip Du Rose.
Supt Johns said their professional approach led to important evidence being found in Du Rose's car and home.
Meanwhile PC Mark Williams was shopping with his wife and baby in November 1997 when he heard a security alarm go off.
He saw store staff trying to stop a man and ran over to help. The man tried to escape but PC Williams pulled him to the ground and held him in an armlock until other officers arrived.
Supt Johns said: "His actions in becoming involved in this incident when he was out of uniform, without any protective equipment, were in the highest traditions of the service."
