VALE Juniors under-14s came unstuck in the league on Sunday when strugglers Grappenhall ended their five-game unbeaten run.
Grappenhall are near the foot of the table, but overturned the form book to score a surprise 2-1 home win over their opponents.
Vale started well, creating a number of good scoring chances, but could not convert their dominance into goals.
Grappenhall rode their luck, with Vale hitting the bar and posts on numerous occasions, and the home side took a first half lead from a hasty clearance out of defence.
A miss-hit shot rolled into the Vale net after a Grappenhall player latched onto a long ball.
Vale had the upper hand in the second half, and equalised through a well-taken goal from Tom Burgess.
However Grappenhall had the final word, scoring a shock winner in the last 10 minutes of a game Vale will want to forget.
