TEENAGER Rebecca Webb will be enjoying a life on the ocean wave this month as part of a team of young sailing recruits.
Rebecca, aged 18, from Congleton, will join young people from across the UK on March 30 for a 10-day adventure to the Canary Islands.
She won a place on a 39-strong crew chosen to work aboard one of two tall ships run by the Sail Training Association.
The Portsmouth-based charity organises sailing trips to the Canaries and around Britain for young people who otherwise could not afford to take part.
The initiative is aimed at youngsters aged between 16 and 24, and the charity pays £400 towards the £700 cost of the trip, with each crew member having to raise the remainder through sponsorship.
''I am really excited about the trip, and am looking forward to making new friends,'' said Rebecca, from Canal Street.
''We will have to do a variety of jobs including cleaning the decks, putting the sails up, cooking and taking turns to steer the ship.''
STA recruiter Pat Fulford said the young crew members learned self-confidence and how to work as a team during what was often their first time away from family and friends.
Anyone who would like to sponsor Rebecca or for more details about the sailing trips ring 01270-623575.
