CHARITY-MINDED children raised almost £500 on Saturday by packing hundreds of shoppers' bags.
The 30-strong team of Congleton Guides and Scouts packed bags at Safeway in the Bridestones Centre for four hours, raising £488 for Comic Relief.
The fund-raising total is due to top £1,000 thanks to the efforts of Safeway trainee manager Helen Wilson and her staff.
Helen and five fun-loving fellow staff members raised £160 with a pub crawl in Congleton on Saturday night.
In additon shoppers have been dropping change in collecting buckets at checkouts, and the supermarket is also running a raffle and lottery game.
Checkout assistants are due to join in the fun tomorrow by dressing in 60s, 70s and 80s fashions for a ''bad taste'' day.
