VILLAGERS are being invited to secure a personal stake in a series of celebrations planned for the year 2000.
So-called investment blocks are being offered to the residents of Church Lawton to kick start fund-raising for the Millennium events.
''The investment blocks cost £10 each, and people can buy as many as they wish,'' said Andy Kerr, secretary of Church Lawton Millennium 2000.
''We decided to offer the blocks to give as many groups a stake in the commemorations and to provide a starter fund.
''Individuals and organisations will share in any profits proportionate to their original investment.
''The Millennium group has been formed to organise events in the parish, and we hope to involve the village and local organisations as much as possible to give scope to a wide range of talents and interests.''
Among events planned for the year 2000 are a carnival, Lawton in Bloom competition, festival of talents, treasure hunt and Millennium ball.
The group also hopes to compile a dIary to record the events of the year 2000, put together a village calendar featuring old photographs, and create a time capsule.
Fund-raising events are planned to support the celebrations, and for details of the investment blocks ring Mr Kerr on 01270-876476.
