TEENAGERS across Nantwich have told the adults what they really want in their town.
A special meeting was held last Friday for the Nantwich's young people to get together with members of the town council, church and youth groups and other interested parties.
The aim was to find out what facilities they want to see brought into Nantwich and what they do not want.
The answer was not a drop-in centre as many had expected but a skateboard and roller skating park.
Town councillor Joyce Stockton attended the meeting, which was chaired by Brine Leas headteacher Mike Butler, and she was impressed with the turnout.
"It went very well indeed," she said. "Quite a lot of young people from Nantwich and the surrounding areas came, some from as far away as Wistaston and Audlem.
"They weren't afraid to speak up and put their views forward and what they want more than anything is a skateboard and roller skating area. That seems to be the current trend.
"It's mainly for 14 to 18-year-olds, they feel there is nothing for them to do in the town apart from going to the pub, and that is sad. When I was younger there were three youth clubs and two cinemas plus a temperence bar.
"I was disappointed that there was no-one there from the borough council after all they are holding the purse strings as far as Nantwich is concerned."
Cllr Stockton added that she was glad that young people were interested enough to come to the meeting and there are plans for another meeting within six months.
