THE warden service at Millfields Flats in Nantwich looks set to be withdrawn.
CLS, which currently runs the service, has told the borough council that from April 1 it will be unable to fund the provision of a daytime warden.
As a result the service is likely to be reduced to 24 hour monitoring and one visit per day in the first year with visiting then being brought into line with existing standards in the third year.
Residents were invited to a meeting in February to discuss the plan and ask questions which were answered by representatives of CLS and the county council's social services department.
Tenants were then sent a letter and asked for comments within 28 days but there was only one reply.
"The reply made the points that elderly people value the human contact which is provided by the two visits a day from CLS staff and that the fortnightly contact which is ultimately proposed does not provide the same amount of support.
"Although the points raised are valid, in view of the fact that there has been only one expression of concern about the proposal it is still felt that the original recommendation on which the consultation was based should be endorsed."
Social services staff have also been given details of tenants who CLS consider may be vulnerable and they have made their own assessment of people who may need support. Councillors were due to meet this week to discuss the proposals.
