LIVE camera action and computer images have played a part in this year's exciting and challenging production at Westlands High School.

Pupils and staff joined together to produce a play based on the classic George Orwell novel Animal Farm, an allegorical version of the Russian Revolution.

The story is set on an English farm where the animals, with the pigs in charge, revolt against the tyrannical farmer Mr Jones.

At first all goes well with all the animals equal but as time goes by some animals become more equal than others.

Pupils of all ages have been involved with the production from the 50 on stage to 15 in the orchestra and a further 40 concerned with lighting, video effects, make-up and costume design.

And this year's production has made special use of multi-media technology with video and computer images mixed with live camera action.

"The production involves many people, it really is a collective exercise," said Gavin Cross, head of drama and the play's director.

"Everyone had an essential part to play whether they are involved directly on stage or have a supporting role."

Headteacher Marc Morris said: "Following last year's successful production of The Mystery Plays, we were looking for a new and exciting challenge.

"The performances are the culmination of considerable hard work by a lot of the pupils and staff. I am also appreciative of all the support that has been given by parents and also businesses in the town for lending equipment."
