ENTHUSIASTIC anglers have raised £250 for the Hope and Homes for Children Fund which aims to raise money for a home for orphans in Sudan.
The Rotary Club of Congleton Dane held a fishing contest on the canal courtesy of the Warrington and Biddulph Angling Clubs who supported the event.
More than 100 anglers met at Church House Inn for an early breakfast, thanks to Lynne and Steve Frost, and to draw for positions.
Rotarians, and keen fishermen themselves, Bernard Chappel and Terry Bours took command of the competition and a total of £1,000 was divided between the section winners with the winner receiving £500.
The next major fund-raising event by the Dane Club will be a fashion show at Congleton Town Hall on May 14.
The fund-raising total has now reached about a quarter of the £10,000 needed to build the home for eight orphans.
