TOP BMX bike riders from Crewe are set to represent Great Britain in two championship finals this year.
The Cheshire Ghost Riders BMX Club, which meets at Tipkinder Park, has 11 members who are competing in the European Championships and the World Championships in Holland and France.
The BMX track has existed since 1983 although the club itself has only been meeting for three years.
The 11 successful competitors in the European and World championships took part in eight national contests last year to qualify.
But the club is looking for financial help to make the journeys with transport costs estimated at £3,500 and accommodation a further £2,200.
The required racing shirts cost £200, with funds also needed for racing fees and medical insurance.
Chairperson Elaine Boyd, whose sons Philip and Richard are taking part, said: "Club funds will be depleted due to track alterations to meet new standards for BMX racing this year. It would be a great shame if they couldn't make these venues to represent Crewe and Great Britain."
The club meets on Tuesday and Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Member are looking for sponsorship for the competitors and are hoping for a borough council grant along with any other help which is available.
If you would like to help with sponsorship or are interested in finding out more about the club telephone Elaine Boyd on 258483.
