Four 15-year-olds from the school lived up to their billing as tournament favourites by winning the British Schools Under 19s title.

The same team were third in last year's Under 15s event despite being favourites.

But this time around the quartet of Alex Dooley, Dave Maxwell, Gary Johnson and Robert Ruiz produced a stunning display of trampolining at Manchester's Armitage Centre to wipe out the memory of last year's disappointment.

Indeed, the result delighted headteacher Dave Smith, who has travelled with the team to every competition over the years.

He said: "It was the most fulfilling moment of my 21 years in teaching.

"I have been to every event with this team over the years and, in the past, they've frustrated me because they haven't lived up to their potential.

"But last week was fabulous, a truly memorable moment."

To further underline Cloughwood's position as the top school for trampolining in the country, its Under 15s team finished third in the finals last week and the Under 13s sixth.

That success follows on from last year's victory in the Under 13s competition.

According to Mr Smith, this win is the culmination of a lot of hard work.

"Under 19s level is always the toughest one to win.

"The fact they have come through this time around means they have finally fulfilled their potential and are where they should have always been.

"The lads have all got the right attitude and level of ambition to go on from here," added Mr Smith.

To get to the finals the three teams had to win through the North West qualifiers and the Northern qualifiers.

In the final they faced teams from throughout Britain, including Ireland but a set of impeccable routines saw them to victory.
