A LIVERPOOL fan became the envy of thousands when she was asked to escort the Mighty Reds on to the pitch before a game - but these Reds were arch-rivals Manchester United.

Jennifer Parr's big match day was her prize for winning a child of achievement award for triumphing in the face of adversity. The plucky seven-year-old, of Cardigan Close, Callands, was mauled by a dog 18 months ago and was nominated for the award by her Brownie pack - 37th Warrington based at St Philip's in Westbrook.

The prize of a special day out at Old Trafford, last Sunday, and the chance to mascot the team was much to the amusement of her Liverpool supporting family.

Dad Dave said: "Jenny's brother told her to have a go at Roy Keane! I work in Manchester and everyone there is a Man United fan so they thought it was hilarious that my daughter was going to be the mascot.

"When they asked Jennifer who her favourite player was so she could have her picture taken with him, she told them it was Michael Owen!"

Jennifer said her favourite moment was meeting Fred the Red - United's furry devil mascot.

Mum Marion said: "It was a brilliant day.

"I don't think Jennifer has swapped her allegiance but we couldn't get the Manchester United kit off her. She was very proud of it."

Jennifer got an attack of pre-match nerves before leading the Premiership side on to the pitch. But hard man Peter Schmeichel proved to be a real softie.

"He introduced himself to Jennifer and then took her by the hand and led her onto the pitch. She didn't have time to think about how nervous she really was," said Marion.

And Jennifer has a claim to fame that few Premiership strikers can match - she managed to put a goal past Peter Schmeichel.
