The group raised almost £20,000 at a series of fund-raising events and has handed over several new pieces of equipment. These include a pulse oximeter, vital signs monitor and a blood warmer to ward A6. This equipment is worth £8,000.

Part of the money was spent on a number of pain relief pumps. These enable patients to control the amount of pain relief they receive and are worth £9,150.

Four phlebotomy chairs to the value of £2,000 have also been bought. These special chairs give patients greater comfort during blood collection.

Chairman of the League of Friends Alan Woodward said: "The League's volunteers have worked very hard and we are delighted to present such valuable equipment as the fruits of their labours.

"I would also like to thank the people of Warrington who, as always, are continuing to give tremendous support to the hospital."

Everyone is welcome at two events to be hosted by the League of Friends.

A coffee morning takes place at St Thomas's Church Hall, Stockton Heath, on Saturday, March 27, from 10am to 12 noon.

The League's annual general meeting takes place in the hospital's postgraduate centre on Thursday, April 8, from 7.30pm.
