A SCHOOLGIRL from Warrington is recovering in hospital after being knocked down in a horror smash in Salford.

Natalie Mulgrew had been crossing the A57 Liverpool Road in Cadishead when she was hit by a motorbike at about 4.30pm on Monday.

The 13-year-old, of Bawtry Court, Padgate, was rushed to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital where she is now in a stable condition in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Natalie suffered a fractured skull and a double fracture of her left leg after being struck by the Suzuki GSX 750 motorcycle as she walked out from behind a bus.

The rider, a 36-year-old man from Cadishead, was treated for minor injuries and shock at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened near to the road's junction with School Lane.
