IT'S ALL going to end in parental tears on a Widnes road, say residents, if something is not done to put the brakes on speeding cars.

Feelings about the velocity of cars driving down Dykin Road came to a head on Friday morning when two cars collided.

Resident Lyndsey Noah wants steps taken before a tragedy happens.

She said: "This is a lethal road. There are a lot of young kids here and the speed the cars come down is terrible.

"A child is going to be killed."

Motorists tend to use it as a short cut between Barrows Green Lane and Moorfield Road, and Lyndsey believes speed restricting devices should be installed.

Moorfield primary school also opens on to the road, which means more children.

Her neighbour Susan Garnett said: "People up the road who are moving say one of the reasons is they've got a little boy and they are frightened to let him out."

Susan says she is often surprised that drivers safely negotiate the roundabout joining Dykin Road and Moorfield Road because of the speed at which they pass her house.

A previous request for sleeping policemen was turned down because the street has a bus route.

Street dwellers now plan a petition to get something done.

A spokesperson for Halton Council said raising a petition was the right course of action as Dykin Road would then be added to its list of assessment areas.
