HALFWAY Mixed pulled off a major surprise when the team who were hitherto next to the bottom in Section Five inflicted the first defeat of the season on leaders Dock Lads 5/4. The leaders are now joint top with Windmill who ran out 5/4 winners against third placed Barley Mow. Fourth placed Grapes ran out 9/0 winners against Eggie Arms.

Albion have a four point lead at the top of Section One after a 16 dart game from E Hartigan them beat Cherry Tree A Team 6/3. Second placed Halfway A slipped up when they went down 6/3 to Lion Doo Waps, the winners moving up to fourth place. Third placed Dockside B also lost ground to the leaders when they too lost 6/3 this time to Jolly Brewer.

Section Two leaders Crofters lost only their second match of the season after they allowed a 4/2 lead to slip away and eventually went down 5/4 to Barge and this has resulted in four teams now heading the table with the same points. Pirates moved ahead of Likely Lads into second place after beating Norton A 7/2 with Likely Lads slipping from second to third place even though they beat Halfway Gents 5/4.

There was no change at the top of Section Three with leaders Halton Marauders beating Dockside 5/4 and second placed Outcasts running out 7/2 winners against Castle. The Tup looked likely to win their first match of the season when they led Lion 4/1 at one stage but Lion hit back to run out 5/4 winners and they are now in third place ahead of Docksiders Draymen moved into fifth place after beating Union Tavern 5/4.

Section Four leaders Dreadnaughts went 4/2 down against Raven but they rallied to run out 5/4 winners.

Second placed Prospect Has Beens slipped up however when they lost 7/2 at home to Railway with the winners moving up to second. Roundhouse B are now two points adrift at the foot of the table after losing out 6/3 to Beachers.

The second round of the Doubles Competition took place last Friday night resulting in just eight pairs remaining in the competition. Those winning through were: T Furnival, N Corke, S Bell, G Littlemore (Dockside B), A Boardman, G Ridgway (Wanderers), S Roberts, J Hillan (Jolly Brewer), D Woodcock, K Jones (Cherry Tree A Team), T Sefton, K Goodall (Outcasts), M Smith, T Humphries (Roundhouse B) M Madigan, J Antrobus (Crofters).

The second round of the KO Cup is on Friday, July 9 with the draw for the third round taking place at the Waterloo Hotel this Sunday.

Next Wednesday, July 14, a secretaries meeting will take place at the War Memorial Club at 8pm. Registration forms for the Winter League will be distributed so it is important that all teams are represented.
