HOPES of bringing to trial in this country a man believed to
be behind the death of a Runcorn man last year now rest with the Jamaican government.
A file on the case of Aaron Vernett-Showers, who died after taking a drink from a bottle of rum spiked with cocaine which had been innocently brought home from a family holiday by his girlfriend, has been sent to the Caribbean for consideration.
The man who gave the girl the tainted rum is in Jamaica awaiting his fate.
Det Con Pete Shaw, who has been involved in the case since it first started, said it was now a question of waiting to see if the suspect, who would face charges of manslaughter and drug importation in England, would be sent over.
"We are hopeful, we are quietly confident," he said.
