RICHARD Anderson produced his best performance so far at the National Swimming Championships in Sheffield over the weekend.

The Winsford and Vale Royal swimmer carried away silver and bronze medals in relay events, but his individual times really stole the show.

In the 50m breaststroke, his time of 312.18 was the fourth best of the juniors, while the 1:08.44 in the 100m placed him fifth.

He also achieved a qualifying time in the 50m freestyle.

Richard's swimming improved over the four days and his swims in the breast and freestyle relays helped him and his team-mates to medals.

His 50m freestyle time also enabled the young swimmer to qualify for the winter nationals in December.

Meanwhile, 13 Winsford swimmers were competing in the Northern Counties Long Course event in Wigan.

Out of 32 individual swims, 13 personal best times were recorded, including six top 10 finishes.

The boys' personal bests were achieved by Andrew Irvine, Scott Bennett, David Somerville, David Anderson, Ryan Morris and Adam Somerville.

The girls' PBs came from Kerry Harrison, Ceri Morris, Laura Astbury, Georgia Holderness, Rebecca Ebbitt, Laura Harrison and Molly Thompson.

Top performers were in the girls 100m breaststroke where Holderness came sixth in the 12 years age group and Thompson second in the 16 years race - her best finish in county swimming.
