TABLE tennis star Brian Johns could be playing in Europe next season - for a Belgian team.

The veterans' league player has been invited to play for First Division club Anderlues after a great performance in the European Championships in Gothenburg earlier this month

If he agrees to the 'transfer', the club will fly Brian out to Belgium for a number of league matches before the new year.

He'll also play several fixtures in the second half of the season for the Gotreux-based team.

Brian, 42, of Northwich, said: "It's quite an exciting prospect to be invited to play for them.

"The club will cover my expenses to fly to Belgium to take part in their First Division games next season.

"Table tennis has a much bigger profile in Europe. It's a massive game and lots more people go to watch.

"The standards are very high and some of the top players compete in the European leagues."

Brian reached the quarter-final stages of the European Championships after beating some world class competitors.

He finally went out in the semi-final to Czech number one seed Shenk.

Brian added: "It was an extremely good game and I should've won because I had the chance.

"I was 20-18 up but lost it 24-22. The match was so exciting everyone else in the hall stopped what they were doing and came over to watch."

Brian will be in action first in Britain at the Merseyside Open in September before any European ties and is also hoping for a World Final place in Vancouver next year.
