CHESHIRE'S junior bowling team are on a roll.

The youngsters totally demolished Greater Manchester in the quarterfinal of the Junior County Championships by a massive 250 chalks.

The 499-249 win marks their biggest win this season as well as the largest victory ever for a Cheshire team, both at junior and senior level.

The whopping win was also the highest score chalked up by any bowling team in Britain this year.

Unfortunately their high scoring exploits wasn't enough to earn them a place in Britain's bowling record books.

They missed out by approximately 10 points on an all time record.

Team manager Gary Cookson said: "It's disappointing to know we came so close but we'll just have to keep on trying."

The away team didn't drop a game at their match in Oldham on Sunday while Greater Manchester could only scrape one game at the Wharton Cons' fixture.

Stephen Morrey and Martin Kettle both earned man of the match awards as Cheshire steamed into a possible semifinal clash with Yorkshire.

The Tykes won't hold any fear for current champions Cheshire - the majority of the team played for Mid Cheshire juniors when they beat them in the final of the Inter County Knock-out final two weeks ago.

Gary added: "We are playing extremely well at the moment and with this kind of momentum behind the team it's really hard to see anyone beating us.

"Our confidence is sky high and our form all season has been exceptional.

"There's no side we fear and, quite rightly, we're favourites to win the championship for the third time in as many years."

The semifinal clash will take place on August 8 at venues yet to be decided.
