He wrote to the Knutsford Guardian in 1997, seeking information about High Legh, but he didn't get a reply.

"I was tracing my family history and I thought finding something out about High Legh would tell me something about them," he said.

Alan, now 67, who had grown up in the village, has since traced his ancestors back to 1400.

But he wants to find out more about High Legh in the 1930s and 1940s so that he can add to his computer records for his grandchildren.

"Your paper printed a school photograph of me at High Legh School, but I never heard anything back," he said.

Alan may be remembered by his classmates for running through wet cement as workmen built several air raid shelters.

The school has since disappeared - as have his footprints - to make way for a community centre, but Alan is still keen to find information about it.
