THE River Dane is still carrying some colour in the water which is ensuring some good chub catches for Warrington Anglers' Association members.

Fish are being caught in water barely 12 inches deep. Caster or meat are best baits.

The Derwent produced some decent roach for local bailiff Ken Fox, who also included gudgeon, grayling, two bream of 3lbs, and a 1-5lbs trout in his catch. All fell to the humble loaf in the form of bread flake.

Barbel to 6lbs are being caught from the River Severn at Loton Park along with some quality chub and roach. Our local bailiff reports some very large salmon are in this stretch.

One of our 'forgotten' fisheries on the River Dee at Caldecott Hall is definitely worth a visit according to a father and son duo who are regular visitors. Large chunks of bread flake are tempting chub to 5lbs and caster for grayling.

Upstream at Lane End Farm Ian Manion fed off the minnows to end up with an evening session's mixed bag of small chub and grayling.

Local bailiff Ian Bateson was well rewarded for strimming bankside vegetation as he snatched a few hours on the River Wyre at Garstang to catch chub and trout. He tells me that the Environment Agency have stocked the length with more coarse fish this week.

At last the water levels have fallen on Woodshaw Reservoir and members are already taking full advantage and reporting some fantastic sport with crucien carp. A lot of small jackpike are making an unwelcome appearance in this pocket-sized fishery.

After turning up for the regular evening match on Tuesday I was told there was only one peg left..... and there were two of us! I ended up at Sandiway lakes, which I have not fished this season. I set up a pole rig and balled in a good mix containing casters, corn, and maggots. Fishing at 11 metres in 16 feet of water my first put in with a caster produced an immediate response with a red finned prime conditioned roach. This pattern continued until I upped the anti with three casters to have a perch of 1.5lbs take it on the drop, followed by nine bream of about 4-6lbs each.

Congratulations to our Cadet, Junior, and Intermediate teams who pulled off a fantastic success in the Sensas National Championships.

I must thank all concerned who gave their time to ensure the event was a success including our team coaches, none better than the famous Conroy brothers, Steve and Stu who put in endless hours on the bank to ensure we would be in medal positions.

Thanks must also go to those in the tackle trade, namely, Preston Inovations, Drennon Tackle, Mel Wilde - Octoplus, GTI Luggage, and Paul Hughes - Sensas.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight for subscriptions, new members, or simply call in for a chat and to catch up on the news. I can be contacted with your queries and catch reports on 01928 716238 Fax 713898.
