THIS year's Crosfields five-a-side tournament was again a huge success with nearly 3,000 people attending.

Organiser Steve Hook said teams were already booking their place for next year's competition.

"It was a great weekend and special thanks must go to the referees and fellow organisers Debbie Hoyland, Lynne Hook, Margaret Jones, Ged Gosney, Dave Hoyland, Dave Jones, mark Stanley, Steve Grimes and Keith Jackson," he said.

The tournament was also a resounding success for local sides with Birchwood winning the under 13s title and Appleton boys narrowly beaten in the under 8s final.

Crosfields are on the lookout for under 15s and open age players to boost their squad. for next season.

The U15s, who play in the Rainhill Junior League, and the Warrington and District League side train at Crosfields recreation ground on Thursdays from 7-8pm.
