THE post-Wimbledon tennis craze continued at the annual Warrington Junior Tennis Tournament at Padgate Tennis and Bowling Club at the weekend.

A total of 120 matches, including 13 finals were played over the three days with entries for the boys events surpassing numbers from recent years.

Two players starred on finals day by taking two titles each. Andrew Beswick won both singles and doubles, with Chris Hann, in the boys' under 12 age group and Stephen McNally did the same in the U14s, playing doubles with Michael Brereton.

In the tournament's closest match Rachel Baron overcame Stockton Heath clubmate Rachel Arnett 7-5 in the third set to win the girls U16s title.

Unluckiest players on the day were Hayley Arnett and Simon Hughes, who both appeared in two finals but had to settle for second place in each event.

In the U12s singles Hayley lost to Naomi Broady from Westheaton and Simon lost the U14s final to Padgate's Liam Vickers. The host club's other winner was Samantha Bolton who bet Hanna Wilson in the girls U14.
