THE time trial season burst into life for Warrington Road Club members this week after a subdued start to the year.

Alf Hilton provided the first win of the year in the Nova CC 50-mile race, recording a stunning time of 1hr 55 mins 42 secs on the undulating course.

This result came after the club's fastest 25-mile time of 0.57.35, which he achieved the previous week.

Other notable times for the season so far include Carl Miller's 22.25 over 10 miles and Steve Hankey's 4.10.5 set in the Anfield 100-mile time trial.

In only his second season of racing, Dave Wright came close to beating the hour for 25 miles, finishing just 10 seconds adrift but improving by more than four minutes from last year.

Another personal best of 2.04.35 at 50 miles and a debut at 100 miles of 4.34.56 have also marked his rapid early season improvement.

Richard Quayle's improvement by more than two minutes for 25 miles to 1.03.56, Bob Bagot's 1.04.08 for 25 miles and 24.29 for 10 miles have also kept the standard high.

Paul McGowan, still in his first year of racing, continues to improve with 23.46 and 1.01.58 for 10 and 25 miles respectively.

The coming weeks see the club organising both a 25 and 50-mile time trial, as well as the annual evening road race held on the Daresbury circuit. All three events look set to include a strong Warrington team.
