WARRINGTON'S academy team put on a great team display to defeat league leaders Bradford at Odsal.

The win puts them in joint pole position with the Bulls, who have a slight points scoring advantage.

After weathering an early Bradford onslaught, the young Wolves opened the scoring with a try from full back David Alstead, which was converted by Steve Kirkbride.

Playing exciting and open rugby, further tries soon followed from Chris Campbell, two, and winger Mike Redford, to give the visitors an 18-0 advantage.

Slack play immediately before half-time allowed the Bulls to score a converted try and make the score 18-6 at the interval.

The second half was just as exciting with both sides continuing to play attacking rugby and tries from Graeme Howard and Gary Hulse were converted by Kirkbride, who also added a penalty.

And Warrington overcame a late Bradford revival to deservedly edge home by a single score.

Team: David Alstead; Chris Campbell, Andrew Barr, David Harris, Mike Redford; Steve Kirkbride, Gary Hulse; Ian Parry, Mark Gleeson, Paul Wood, Ben Simpson, Graeme Howard, Paul Noone. Subs: Wayne Gittens, John Hill, David Hughes, Jamie Williams.
