ST. OSWALDS' Tommy Johnstone shattered hopes of a memorable King and Queen double by narrowly taking the Carlsberg Tetley title.

A win for Wells would have added to the celebrations for his club, who also stormed the prestigious Greenalls Classic, but in the end his opponent proved just too strong.

After beating Albert Prescott and Kevin Wainwright in the earlier rounds, Johnstone shot into a 12-5 lead in the final.

But Wells pulled back and stayed within touch until he lost a crucial end by the smallest of margins to go 20-17 down and eventually lose the match 21-18.
