CAMPAIGNERS behind a £400,000 super-park at Westy are receiving top level recognition from Whitehall, today, Friday.

The efforts of residents over the past few years have breathed new life into open spaces, off Bridgewater Avenue.

Now Environment Minister, Michael Meacher MP, is set to tour the facility with volunteers, councillors and Warrington South MP Helen Southworth.

Adventure playground equipment for youngsters and a gathering-place for teenagers are just two of the achievements notched up to date by the neighbourhood team.

Cash for the project has been forthcoming through a series of grants and approaches to major firms in Warrington.

MP Mrs Southworth said the dream scheme was the result of work between a variety of different partners.

"It is truly a community-led project and I am delighted to be able to show Mr Meacher the progress that has been made so far," the MP said.

The Minister will then tour the nearby Alcan recycling plant with Westy councillors Hans Mundry and Mike Maher.
