A WARRINGTON born writer is set for screen stardom when his first novel is turned into a feature film.

Bewsey-bred Conrad Williams, aged 30, has been commissioned by Revolution Films, the production company behind the acclaimed Jude and Welcome to Sarajevo, to turn his book Head Injuries into a screenplay.

Top directors Tim Roth and Nicolas Roeg are rumoured to be interested in the project which is set to start filming in spring next year.

And Warrington could be set for a starring role as the book is set partly in the town. The book tells the tale of three childhood friends who share a terrible secret and fall prey to a series of mysterious events. When they are reunited, their past begins to unravel with shocking results.

The book was a huge critical success for the former Bewsey High School and Priestley College student whose parents Leonara and Grenville still live in Lodge Lane.

A former journalist, Conrad has been writing short stories since he was seven. He won the British Fantasy Award for Best Newcomer at the age of 24.
