BABIES fighting for their lives will have the advantage of the latest technology - thanks to the pennies and pounds given by kind-hearted Warrington folk.

Round-the-clock care for tots in intensive care will now be easier with the arrival of three multi-parameter monitors in the special care baby unit.

Donations for the vital equipment totalled £30,000 and this was built up by individual contributions and group fundraising efforts.

Keeping medics up-to-date on a child's heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels, the cutting-edge devices are a much-needed addition to the neonatal unit.

Sister Rita Jones said: "Until now, we have been using several pieces of equipment to monitor these different areas, so to use just one is much more efficient.

"The machines will monitor seriously ill babies and we just want to thank local people for their help over the past few years."
