KNYPERSLEY fell an agonising four runs short of victory against league leaders Elworth on Sunday after looking set for a memorable win.

Knypersley were well set at 198 for five in reply to Elworth's 218 for seven, and were still in with a shout at 200 for eight.

However the last two men went with the score on 214, with two balls left, to hand Elworth a last-gasp victory and 25 points to eight for Knypersley.

The defeat followed an easy win for Knypersley on Saturday at home to Newcastle and Hartshill in the league.

Elworth were 36 for two, but rallied to 114 before the loss of their third wicket.

The next man went at 136, but they added another 70 to take them over the 200-mark.

Elworth professional Percival was the backbone of their innings, hitting 110.

Andy Farr claimed three for 97 off 23 overs, there were two wickets for 46 for Mark Tournier, and one for 25 for Darren Washington.

Steve Farr was Knypersley's top scorer with 53, ahead of 50 for Paul Bates and 43 from the bat of Rob James.

Knypersley demolished Newcastle, who were above them in the league before the match, by dismissing them for 113 runs.

Newcastle were in trouble immediately at eight for two and 15 for three.

Neil Dutton was the chief wicket taker, with four for 27, ahead of three for 36 from Tournier and three for 28 for Darren Washington.

Knypersley lost Rob Riley for 32 with the score on 94, and Tournier saw his side past the winning post with an unbeaten 67.
