ALSAGER take on Bramhall at home this Sunday in the Cheshire Cup quarter-final after beating Bredbury in the fifth round at the weekend.

Gareth Rowe was on form with the ball, taking four wickets for 19 as Bredbury opened with 135 for eight in their 40 overs.

Eddie Gilhooly provided strong support in Sunday's home match, with three for 37.

Alsager made heavy going of their victory, winning with only four balls left on 137 for six.

Richard Bason hitting the winning run, captain Steve Armitage top scoring with 46, and Gilhooly making 27.

The sluggish Alsager middle order also cost their side the chance of victory on Saturday at Cheadle Hulme in the league.

Cheadle declared on 226 for eight after 62 overs, and Alsager ended on 218 for seven after running out of overs.

Alsager were going well at 87 for one before the middle order lost its way, failing to accelerate at the run rate needed for victory, Alsager needing 24 from the last three overs to win.

Gilhooly was the best bowler, with four for 79 off 19 overs, supported by three for 59 for Paul Tibbetts off 21.

Armitage was again Alsager's top scorer with 27, ahead of 25 for Darren Long and 20 from Tibbetts.
