CHARITY director Anne Mawdsley is jetting off next month to the USA to receive a major award.

Mrs Mawdsley is the director of the Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association, which is based at 112, Crewe Road, Alsager.

She is due to travel to fly across the Atlantic to attend the American Scleroderma Conference and receive an award for the association's web site.

''I am delighted to have been chosen to receive the award, and it was a complete surprise,'' said Mrs Mawdsley.

The association has received welcome financial support from local groups and individuals.

Quiz nights at the Foxhound pub in Biddulph raised £200, and Phyllis Rebbeck raised £112 with a garden party at her home, with the support of Alsager United Reform Church..

The Alsager Town Council chairman's charity fund donated £50, Alsager Inner Wheel gave £600 from a fashion show, and Astbury Golf Club raised £1,850 at their charity day.
