DIPLOMATIC relations across Nantwich are set to be boosted this week thanks to Malbank School head girl Catherine Finney.

Catherine, aged 17, from Coppenhall, is currently taking A levels in history, French, English and maths.

She hopes to have a career as a diplomat in the Foreign Office and is heading down to London this week.

Catherine beat off stiff competition and has secured one of ten placements, under her own initiative, for two weeks work experience at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The school has strong links itself with the Foreign Office through its patron of international initiatives Dame Maeve Fort CMG, the British High Commissioner in Cape Town, South Africa.

Catherine is being supported financially by the Nantwich and Acton Grammar School Foundation which exists to support pupils on interesting and educational projects.

Headteacher Alan Kettleday said: "Catherine is a very clever girl and when she returns she will be able to use this for her future career and also to give a talk to the general studies students."
