WORRIED residents are calling for a meeting to find out more about a health authority's plans for a former orphanage in Crewe.

People living in Queens Park Gardens, off Victoria Avenue, are not happy that they were not consulted about the change of use of Webb House.

They are also concerned about exactly who will be moving into the building.

The former orphanage had been used as a training facility for British Rail and Mental Health Services of Salford NHS Trust has applied to change it to a centre for 'psycho-educational services'.

The building would house between 20 and 40 adults who have experienced difficulties as children and need help to cope with their lives.

Local resident Glenys Pugh said people living near her were not happy with the situation and she planned to speak to other residents in the local area to find out their views.

"We are very much in the dark," she said. "They didn't have the decency to get in touch and let us know about the change so we don't really know much about it.

"It might start off with the people not being on medication but what happens if that changes in the future. We don't know what problems they will have.

"It will be right on our doorstep and what happens if Salford needs somewhere to put other people, will they come to Crewe?"

Local resident Barrie Durkin has taken up the fight and there are hopes that a meeting with residents and the NHS Trust will be held during the first week in August.
