A MAN bit his brother on the ear during a series of drunken attacks, Warrington Crown court heard on Friday.

Anthony Clarke, 24, of Milton Avenue, Widnes was jailed for 12 months after admitting wounding and affray.

Andrew Green, prosecuting, said the defendant and his brother Andrew and their girl friends went to Widnes Bowling club to celebrate Andrew's birthday.

After they left the defendant and his girl became involved in a heated argument.

Andrew tried to intervene and calm things down but was attacked by his brother.

There were a series of attempts by Andrew, his girl friend Terri Wade and another man to try and calm the defendant down but Andrew and Miss Wade were attacked.

Andrew was punched and kicked and suffered bruising and a bite wound to his ear.

Miss Wade sustained bruises to her arm and leg.

The court heard Clarke had previous convictions for violence, always for offences committed after he had been drinking.

He was aware he became violent after alcohol and as a result had cut down on his drinking.

Judge David Hale told Clarke: "These were particularly nasty attacks on your brother and his girl friend."
