WOMAN received a suspected electrical shock while in the shower at a gym.

An internal investigation is under way into how Barbara Nixon, a 30-year-old member of Daresbury Park Hotel's leisure centre, came to be hurt at the facility at 9.30am.

She was in the shower room when she appeared to suffer a shock, not long after a digger working on a multi-million pound development at the Daresbury Park cut through an electric cable.

Ms Nixon was taken by ambulance to hospital for a check-up, although she was later discharged.

Mark Bevan, a spokesman for Greenall's Hotel and Leisure which owns the hotel complex, said that it was not clear what exactly had happened, but they were investigating.

The Health & Safety Executive had also been informed.

"We have not been able to ascertain whether it was electrical," said Mr Bevan.

"The development was going on and, at that moment, we did have a problem with a digger going through a cable."
