BACK when Margaret Matthews was a girl, Queen Victoria was coming to the end of her distinguished reign.

Since then Margaret, who lives at Heather Croft Nursing Home in Longbarn Lane, has lived through two World Wars and countless history-making events in her 104 years.

Today as the former factory worker approaches her third century, she has survived each of her six brothers and sisters, her son and two daughters and husbands Ernie Davis and Bill Matthews.

But she can reflect with pride on a multitude of grandchildren, including seven great-grandchildren and a great, great grandson.

An early claim to fame, while living in Knotty Ash, was that Ken Dodd's father was her milkman!

In the past few years she has battled through a hip replacement operation, aged 99, and surgery again at 101. A celebration with family and friends was held at the home for Margaret, who is 104 tomorrow, Saturday.
