READ all about it - junior newshounds from Padgate grill the town's finest literary minds.

The team of school-age super scoops proved they knew the "write" stuff as they worked to produce a newspaper as part of Book Week activities at Padgate High School.

Leading authors, poets and illustrators agreed to take part in the week-long initiative - with the would-be young hacks taking a few tips from reporter Peter Magill before launching their paper project.

Tim Firth, writer of The Preston Front, and his artist father Gordon, from Warrington, and leading children's authors Nigel Hinton, Phyllis Henderson and Bob Wilson made appearances.

And wordsmiths Terry Caffrey and David Horner, along with African storyteller Miso'shi, featured prominently throughout the week.

The schools involved included Padgate High, Brook Acre CP, Longbarn CP, St Bridget's RC, Padgate CE and Cinnamon Brow CE, supported by Padgate Library and Recreation Centre.
